Largemouth Bronze GudgeonCoreius guichenoti

Habitat: reside in rapid rivers.

Feeding habits: omnivous; mainly feeds on aquatic insects, mollush, piece of vegetations, fish eggs and young fish etc.

Features: it gets its name because its mouth is semi-round and with a brown body color. The front part of its body is cylindrical, while the back part is flat. Its mouth locates in the belly side of the head, which is beneficial for it to swallow up food in the bottom of water. It has a pair of thick cirrus and a particularly long thoracic finwhich are sensitive tools for it to seek for food. It lays its eggs from May to June each year; the cytula will float with water and hatch in this process. The fish has a large size; the biggest of them can grow to 3.5-4.0 kg. Its flesh is fresh and delicious and is good specie of fish in China as well as a kind of important economic fish. But its number has been reduced greatly.
